🎙️ Fool Me Twice CrankaTsuris
A Generations of Grumbles Podcast Episode
There’s a sacred tradition in every family: the ritual of being fooled. Not once. Not twice. But repeatedly, with flair, snacks, and a vague promise of emotional growth.
In our family, this tradition is upheld by Cousin Barry, who once convinced everyone that his new business venture—“Kosher Kombucha for Cats”—was going to revolutionize pet care. Grandma Ethel invested. Uncle Saul offered to build a website. I, regrettably, agreed to write the jingle.
🎵 “Meowcha for your soul, furball control!”
It failed. Spectacularly. But Barry returned the next year with “GefilteCoin,” a cryptocurrency backed by jars of pickled fish. And we? We fell for it again.
This episode explores the generational art of ignoring red flags. Great-Grandpa Moishe once lent his brother a goat, only to find out the goat had been rebranded as “Organic Lawn Maintenance” and rented out to neighbors. Grandma Ethel once trusted a man named Irving who claimed to be a “psychic plumber.” He predicted her pipes would burst. Then he burst them himself.
We’ve all got our Fool-Me-Twice stories. Aunt Miriam believed her son would finally move out after college. He’s now 42 and lives in the basement, running a podcast called Conspiracy Kugel. It has three listeners. One is his mother.
But here’s the thing: we don’t learn. We choose not to learn. Because hope, like brisket, is best served warm and slightly delusional.
So we gather again. We trust again. We fall through the trapdoor labeled “FOOL ME TWICE,” holding a sign that says “TRUST ME,” and we do it with love, laughter, and a side of CrankaTsuris!

[01:00–03:00] Segment 1: Barry’s Latest Scheme
SFX: Trapdoor slam, brisket blender, sigh loop
BARRY
This time it’s foolproof. I’m launching “GefilteCoin 2.0.”
ZOE
Didn’t the first one collapse after you tried to mint NFTs of your mother’s meatloaf?
BARRY
That was a liquidity issue. This one’s backed by emotional equity.
SYLVIA
I invested. I laminated the receipt.
PRINCESS TSURIS (meowing)
Meow. Translation: “I bought in. I regret everything.”

You fell for it last year. He said “just a few boxes” and you ended up hauling a taxidermied ferret.
JAKE
That ferret had a podcast.
MORTY
This time he said “no heavy lifting.”
DEBBIE
And yet you’re icing your spleen.
SCHMUTZY (barking)
Woof! Translation: “I warned you. You didn’t listen. I peed on the ferret.”
—
[05:00–07:00] Segment 3: Shayna’s Trust Retreat
SFX: Meditation gong, brisket sizzling, sigh windchimes
SHAYNA
I hosted a retreat: “Trust Again, But With Snacks.”

You served brisket and betrayal.
SHAYNA
We did trust falls. Barry dropped me.
BARRY
I was emotionally unavailable.
BIRDIE (squawk)
“Trust is a dish best served with a waiver!”
—

SFX: Pen scribbling, couch creak, sigh echo
DR. MINDY
This family suffers from Repetitive Trust Syndrome.
DEBBIE
Is that treatable?
DR. MINDY
Only with brisket and boundaries.
SYLVIA
I trust, but I verify. With spreadsheets.
MORTY
I trust, then I ice my spleen.

Just as everyone shouted “We’ve learned our lesson!”
Rabbi Kleinman stood up.
Held a brisket.
And declared:
“Trust is divine. But falling for Barry again? That’s a mitzvah of madness.”
BIRDIE (squawk)
“Also, brunch is emotionally west.”

[15:00–17:00] CLOSING MONOLOGUE

So what’s the takeaway?
In this family, trust is renewable, regret is inevitable, and brisket is the emotional bait.
